【DAY 1】

MIHO MUSEUM

This art museum is in a mountainous area on the outskirts of Shigaraki-cho, Shiga Prefecture, a neighboring prefecture of Kyoto. It was constructed with the idea of Shangri-La in mind. The exhibition hall is situated along a cherry trees avenue, leading to a tunnel and suspension bridge. The building is 80% underground to protect the surrounding environment. The collection includes over 2,000 items from different regions and eras, making it a standout feature of the museum.

SHIRAHIGE SHRINE

It is said that there has been a torii gate in the lake in front of Shirahige Myojin since ancient times, and the torii gate in the lake is also depicted in the Muromachi period folding screen painting “Illustrated guidebook to Omi”. Various theories speculate why the torii gate was built in the middle of the lake, but there is no clear evidence. The torii gate was said to be visible or hidden by the waves, adding to its mysterious appearance. Today’s structure was built in 1937.

LAKE BIWA OTSU PRINCE HOTEL

This resort hotel is situated on the shores of Lake Biwa, a symbol of Otsu and all rooms have lake views. Moreover, the location is convenient for sightseeing in Kyoto, just two stops and a 10-minute ride from Kyoto Station by train. The building was designed by Kenzo Tange, one of the first Japanese architects to achieve international recognition. All guest rooms on the 38th floor offer stunning views of Lake Biwa, allowing to experience the beauty of all four seasons.

【DAY 2】

AMANOHASHIDATE (AMANOHASHIDATE VIEWLAND)

Amanohashidate, located in Miyazu Bay on the Sea of Japan in northern Kyoto Prefecture, is one of Japan’s three most scenic spots. It is a unique landform with around 6,700 pine trees growing on a 3.6km long sandbar. This enigmatic formation was sculpted over millennia. Take in the breathtaking panorama from the observation deck.

INE BAY CRUISE

Ine Bay, in the northert part of Kyoto Prefecture has been a hub for the fishing industry since the ancient times. For its specific townscape and traditional architecture, it has been selected as a preservation district of national significance. Although it is on the Sea of Japan side and open to the south, the area is surrounded by mountains and three sides, which helps to calm the waves. The boathouses in Ine Bay also offer a serene and atmospheric scenery, perfect for relaxation.

KINOSAKI ONSEN

Kinosaki Onsen is a hot spring in Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture. It has a long history dating back to before the Heian period. Visit the outdoor baths, open for 1300 years, and soothe your mind and body.

【DAY 3】

JOKAMACHI, IZUSHI

Izushi, also knows as “Tajima’s little Kyoto” is a picturesque place that retains the features of a traditional castle town as small as to be toured on foot. Also, there are numerous splendid buildings such as “Eirakukan”, the oldest playhouse in the Kinki region, historic streets, Izushi ware pottery, and exquisite gourmets including Izushi soba and Tajima beef.

TAKEDA CASTLE

The ruins of this castle are in Asago City, Hyogo Prefecture. It is also called “Tiger Castle”, as the terrain looks like a sleeping tiger. The locality on the mountain top is a designated national historical site. It is sometimes called “The castle in the sky” due to the haze and mist rising from the Maruyama River.
